Reload: My Telegram Bot to Never Lose Track of My Recurring Tasks
Published on July 22, 2025
For the past few months, I was noting in a database when I recharged my trimmers because they don't have battery indicators. This allowed me to know when I needed to recharge them. Since this system was annoying me, I created a Telegram bot to automate all of this.
The Trigger: My Trimmers Without Battery Indicators
I have several trimmers but some don't have battery indicators. Impossible to know if they're charged or not without testing them. So I often found myself with a dead trimmer when I needed to trim, or conversely I would recharge them "just in case" without knowing if it was necessary.
I started noting this in a database. Quickly, I realized this system could apply to many other situations where I had no idea of my actual rhythms.
Other Daily Mysteries
Olive oil, for example. I buy it regularly, but a bottle lasts a long time. 2 months? 4 months? 6 months? No idea. Same for unclogging my shower — I do it when it's blocked, but it's quite rare. Every 6 months? 8 months? 1 and a half years? I had no clue.
The problem was that updating the database wasn't practical at all. I had to open my computer, connect, etc... Hence the bot idea: now, in 2 clicks on my phone, it's done.
How It Works
I created Reload. In just a few clicks on my smartphone, I can:
- Record when I do a recurring task
- Check statistics to see my habits
- Identify deviations from my usual rhythms
It's much more practical than connecting to a dashboard, and the data is automatically analyzed.
My Current Use Cases
Device Maintenance
- My trimmers: I note each recharge, this allows me to see when it's time to recharge and detect if a battery is starting to weaken (more frequent recharges)
- My robot vacuum: emptying the bin according to my cleaning habits
My Bike
- Tire inflation: I discover my real needs according to seasons
- Chain oiling: adaptation according to weather and usage
- General cleaning: frequency according to season and type of rides
Supply
- Olive oil: now I know a bottle lasts me about 3 months
- Cleaning products: dish soap, laundry detergent according to my actual consumption
- Spices: replacement according to what I actually cook
House Maintenance
- Shower unclogging: the most interesting! If I start doing it more often, it will signal a more serious drainage problem
- Changing sheets: optimization according to seasons
- Hood cleaning: according to my actual cooking frequency
What I Discovered
The results surprised me on several points:
- My beard and hair trimmers have very different autonomies.
- My shower unclogging follows a more regular cycle than expected.
- It's fun to know how often I inflate my bike tires.
The Interest Beyond Tracking
What's great is that the bot reveals hidden patterns. A changing frequency can signal something:
- More frequent recharging = aging battery
- More frequent maintenance = wear or emerging problem
I go from reactive management ("oh, it's dead/empty/clogged") to something more predictive.
Other Usage Ideas
While discussing with friends, we found many other possible applications:
- Gardening: plant watering, anti-moss treatment, mowing according to actual growth
- Car: oil level, tire pressure, windshield washer fluid
- Personal care: toothbrush replacement, care products according to actual consumption
- Animals: bird feeder refilling according to seasons
A Simple but Useful Project
In the end, it's a small personal project I made for fun, but which turns out to be really practical in daily life. Nothing revolutionary, just a modern way to replace my paper notebook with something smarter.
