Les Épines in Concert: A Nostalgic Journey into Led Zeppelin's Universe
Published on March 30, 2025
Eighteen years ago, in 4th grade at Gutenberg High School in Saint-Herblain, I discovered the musical universe of Led Zeppelin through an English presentation. With my classmate, we immersed ourselves in the work of this legendary British group from the 70s, spending hours listening to their iconic albums brimming with hits like "Stairway to Heaven", "Whole Lotta Love" or "Kashmir".
Today, here I am 600 km away, in Gagnac-sur-Garonne, attending a concert by Les Épines, a Toulouse-based band that passionately brings Led Zeppelin's legendary repertoire back to life.
This exceptional evening offered a double program: first Out of the Cage paying vibrant tribute to Genesis with faithful and masterful interpretations, then Les Épines transporting us into Led Zeppelin's rock universe.
I must admit that, unlike Led Zeppelin, I only knew Genesis through a few hits like "I Can't Dance" or "That's All" and some popular Phil Collins tracks. What a pleasant surprise to discover the richness of their repertoire!
From the very first notes, Les Épines managed to capture the very essence of the British group. The singer, with his powerful and versatile voice, was strikingly reminiscent of Robert Plant, effortlessly transitioning from characteristic screams to melodious whispers. The guitarist perfectly mastered Jimmy Page's complex riffs and iconic solos, reproducing the virtuosity that made the original group famous.
The rhythm section was not to be outdone, with solid bass and explosive drums that paid tribute to the talent of John Paul Jones and John Bonham. The most technical compositions as well as the more intimate ballads were performed with remarkable precision.
The atmosphere was electric, the venue vibrated to the rhythm of songs we sang along to in chorus. Each solo triggered ovations, each song's end brought sustained applause. The band managed to create a true communion with the audience, making us relive the intensity of concerts from rock's golden age.
These three hours of concert were a true journey through time, a return to the roots of my adolescence and my passion for rock. Les Épines managed to transmit Led Zeppelin's musical legacy with contagious energy, reminding us how much this group marked rock history and continues to influence entire generations.
An unforgettable evening that reminded me why, even after all these years, Led Zeppelin's music continues to resonate so strongly within me.
